| Mar 12:17 “And Jesus said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marveled greatly at him” |
The Pharisees and Herodians questioned Jesus and tried to trap Him saying, "Teacher, we know that you tell the truth, Should we pay the taxes to Caesar or not?" But Jesus saw through their trick and answered, "Bring a silver coin, and let me see it." When they brought him one, and He asked, "Whose inscription and name are these?" "The Emperor's," they answered. Then Jesus says a remarkable statement saying, "Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God."
The statement of Jesus is very unusual and people were amazed at His statement. The logical question comes to our mind is that, is there any coin that has God’s Inscription? The Bible clearly tells us in Gen. 1:27 that, “And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created him”. So we have the “imago dei” and our bodies do have the inscription of God. That is why Apostle Paul requests us in Rom.12:1, to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is the true worship.
The true worship is nothing but offering of one’s self to the Sovereign God. It is clearly evident in Gen.22:5, where we see the term “worship” for the first time in the Holy Scriptures. And for Abraham, the worship means, offering Isaac to God. Abraham did not offer Isaac physically, but the Holy Spirit introduced the term “worship” to us for the first time in this context.
So we need to learn the true meaning of worship. “Worship is surrendering our will, our emotions and our entire self to our Father who created us for His glory and for His good pleasure”.
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow
Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Take me, Jesus, take me now
I surrender all, I surrender all
All to Thee, my blessed Savior
I surrender all.
